Intellectual Property Policy
Summit College Preparatory School - Policy Overview
We protect original work by students, faculty, and contributors. This policy explains ownership, licensing, fair use, and DMCA procedures, and links to related Summit policies for clarity and compliance.
Copyright Protection Policy
By default, the original author (student, faculty, or staff) owns the work they create, unless a separate written agreement assigns rights (e.g., sponsored research or commissioned projects). Keep drafts and timestamps to document authorship clearly and store source files securely.

DMCA Compliance (Takedown & Counter-Notice)
If you believe content hosted by Summit infringes your copyright, your notice should include: (1) your physical or electronic signature; (2) identification of the copyrighted work; (3) the URL of the material to be removed; (4) your contact information; (5) a good-faith statement; and (6) a statement under penalty of perjury that the notice is accurate and you are authorized to act.
Send DMCA notices to admin@summithighschool.org. Background: DMCA overview.
If you believe a removal was in error, you may submit a counter-notice including: (1) your signature; (2) identification of the removed content; (3) a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake; and (4) your consent to the jurisdiction of a competent court.
Fair Use Guidelines
Summit supports good-faith educational uses that qualify as fair use. We ask creators to weigh the four factors purpose, nature, amount, and market effect before using third-party material. When in doubt, transform the use (commentary, analysis, critique), use only what is necessary, and attribute sources.

Licensing of Academic Materials
Summit encourages responsible sharing through clear licensing. Creative Commons licenses (for example, CC BY, CC BY-NC, CC BY-SA) clarify how others may use, adapt, or redistribute your work while preserving your rights and attribution. Choose a license that matches your goals and any third-party obligations.
