Related Policies & How to Start

Before you submit a request, review the following pages for definitions, procedures, and forms; afterwards, use the contact section below if you need help.

What Is the FERPA Policy?

The FERPA Policy implements the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which protects the privacy of student education records. Specifically, FERPA grants parents and later, eligible students rights to inspect and review records, request amendments, and control most disclosures of personally identifiable information. Because clarity matters, we publish plain-language procedures and provide direct contacts so families can exercise these rights without delay.

Your Rights Under the FERPA Policy

Right to Inspect and Review

Parents and eligible students may review education records. After you submit a written request to the Registrar, we acknowledge promptly and, within 45 days, provide access or a written status update that includes a precise timeline and delivery method.

Right to Request Corrections (Amendments)

If you believe a record is inaccurate or misleading, you may request an amendment. We evaluate the request quickly and respond in writing. If we decline the change, you can request a formal hearing; afterwards, we issue a final, written determination and include a right-to-place-a-statement in the record when applicable.

Right to Control Disclosures

Generally, we require written consent before releasing personally identifiable information from education records. However, FERPA permits certain disclosures without consent for example, to school officials with a legitimate educational interest, to another school where the student seeks enrollment, in a health or safety emergency, or under a court order. In each case, we follow the law, record the disclosure when required, and communicate as appropriate.

Directory Information & Educational Records

We may disclose limited directory information (such as name, grade level, and honors) unless you opt out in writing. To opt out, contact the Registrar & Records; we will confirm receipt and the effective date. By contrast, education records for example, transcripts, attendance, discipline, class schedules, and certain health documentation remain confidential under the FERPA Policy and are disclosed only as allowed by law.

How to Submit a FERPA Request

Step 1: Write to the Registrar: include your full name, role (parent, eligible student), the records you seek, and preferred delivery method. Immediately afterwards, we acknowledge within five business days and outline next steps.

Step 2: Identity Verification: we verify identity securely and, when necessary, request limited additional information so your request continues without delays.

Step 3: Access or Decision: within 45 days, we provide access, deliver copies as applicable, or issue a written decision with a precise timeline. If you request an amendment and we decline, you may request a hearing; then, we schedule it promptly and share the outcome in writing.

Disclosures Without Consent

When the law permits disclosure without consent, we act narrowly and document the basis. Common scenarios include legitimate educational interest by a school official, transfer to another school, judicial orders, financial aid purposes, and health or safety emergencies. Whenever the law requires notice, we inform affected families and explain next steps clearly.

How to File a FERPA Complaint

If you believe we did not comply with the FERPA Policy, you may first contact us to resolve the issue quickly. Alternatively, you may submit a complaint to the U.S. Department of Education’s Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO). For instructions and forms, visit the official FERPA portal:
