We protect original work by students, faculty, and contributors. This policy explains ownership, licensing, fair use, and DMCA procedures, and it links to related Summit policies so you can act confidently and stay compliant.

Copyright Protection
By default, the original author (student, faculty, or staff) owns the work they create, unless a separate written agreement assigns rights (for example, a sponsored research contract). Keep drafts, timestamps, and source files to document authorship clearly.
For authoritative guidance, review the Student & Parent Handbook first; then consult the U.S. Copyright Office.
DMCA Compliance (Takedown & Counter-Notice)
If you believe content hosted by Summit infringes your rights, send a proper DMCA notice. We evaluate submissions promptly and remove or restrict access when required. Include the following elements:
Send notices to admin@summithighschool.org. For legal background, see the DMCA overview.
If we remove content and you believe the action was mistaken, you may submit a counter-notice that includes your signature, identification of the removed material, a good-faith statement, and your consent to the jurisdiction of a competent court.
Fair Use Guidelines
We support transformative, good-faith educational uses when they qualify as fair use. Before you include third-party material, weigh the four factors: purpose, nature, amount, and market effect. Whenever possible, transform the use (analysis, commentary, or critique), rely on only what is necessary, and credit your sources.
Learn more: Fair Use - U.S. Copyright Office. For classroom expectations, also review our Student & Parent Handbook.
Licensing of Academic Materials
Summit encourages responsible sharing through clear, accessible licensing. Creative Commons licenses (for example, CC BY, CC BY-NC, or CC BY-SA) define how others may use, adapt, and redistribute your work while preserving attribution and core rights. Choose the license that fits your intent and any third-party obligations.
