Academic Counseling: Holistic, Evidence-Driven
Academic counseling at Summit College Prep integrates learning, well-being, and university readiness. Counselors translate diagnostics into a living plan, align it with live instruction, and verify growth through authentic portfolio evidence. Consequently, students advance with clarity and confidence while families understand goals, timelines, and outcomes.
Academic Support
We begin with an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that sets measurable term targets for writing, mathematics, languages, and research. Teachers provide timely, actionable feedback; counselors convert that feedback into next steps and checkpoint dates, therefore turning instruction into verified progress. As new evidence appears, we adjust the plan so support remains proportional and precise. For the live-teaching framework that underpins this process, review our Academic Model.
Emotional Well-Being
Because learning thrives in balance, counselors monitor workload, pace, and stress signals during live classes and check-ins. When needed, we coordinate accommodations, recalibrate milestones, and document impact; consequently, students sustain rigor without sacrificing health. Expectations and escalation paths remain clear in the Student & Parent Handbook.
College Readiness
Readiness grows from evidence. Students build a university-facing portfolio: an analytical essay with rubric history, a mathematics problem set with annotated corrections, a CEFR/HSK-aligned language sample, and an interdisciplinary project with sources and data displays. Therefore, admissions teams can read achievement through authentic work, not only grades. For an institutional summary, see the School Profile.
1-to-1 Mentoring & ILP
We coach students in 1-to-1 sessions and add small seminars when collaboration helps. The ILP sets quarterly targets for core subjects, research, and languages, and we adjust pacing from real evidence rubrics, drafts, and oral defenses.
Gifted Acceleration Lanes
Counselors open acceleration in strengths and add targeted support for gaps. Students pursue competitions, publication, and when eligible Importance of Gifted Education. Milestones keep families on time.
Multilingual Pathways & Benchmarks
Every learner develops academic English plus two languages. We coach toward CEFR C1/C2, Goethe B2–C1, and HSK 5–6. See the Multilingual Model and align courses in the Course Catalog.
University Planning & Outcomes
From Grade 9 we map a four-year plan, build a balanced list, and manage a clear deadline calendar. We coach essays, interviews, and portfolios; teachers write evidence-based recommendations. Details: Global Students.
Institutional Access & Verification
We connect family • school • institutions • government: testing agencies, talent searches, scholarship funds, and dual-enrollment partners. Our counselor verifies enrollment and level; see Registrar & Records for transcript requests.
Records, GPA & Compliance
Summit issues official transcripts with grading scale, GPA method, and honors/advanced weighting. We teach live on Zoom Pro and document contact minutes in Microsoft 365. Policies: Student & Parent Handbook • Identity: School Profile.
Long-Term Planning & Early University Preparation
Counselors maintain a four-year credit map that sequences requirements, protects prerequisites, and shows routes to accelerate or recover credit. Moreover, we manage application calendars, recommendations, and records so files remain complete well ahead of deadlines; admissions decisions, of course, rest with each institution. For offerings and prerequisites consult the Course Catalog.
Tools, Platforms, and Continuity
We hold live sessions on Zoom Pro using secure, invitation-only links. We manage documents, comments, and calendars in Microsoft 365 via ClassLink; during outages, we coordinate briefly on WhatsApp Business. Importantly, these systems operate independently of the public website, and counselors verify access rhythm so instruction continues without interruption.
Communication & Service Standards
We write updates that specify actions, owners, and dates; calendar invites function as the source of truth. Counselors reply within one business day and issue written action items within two; instructors return assignment feedback within two business days unless a longer window is stated in advance. Therefore, students and families always know what happens next and when.
Compliance, Privacy & Integrity
We store student records in Microsoft 365 with role-based access; public links are not used for academic files. We create class recordings only when instruction requires them and after notice; files remain in OneDrive with limited access and scheduled deletion. Students submit original work with citations; teachers may verify sources, and consequences follow the Handbook. For federal and state guidance, consult FERPA and the Florida Department of Education.
College Reporting & Verification
Summit issues official transcripts that include the grading scale and GPA method, and the counselor of record verifies authenticity on request. Institutions may also request the School Profile, the Course Catalog, attendance and integrity policies, and counselor confirmations linked to the ILP and portfolio. We observe U.S. Eastern Time (Florida); consequently, calendar invites reflect EST/EDT. Contact: admin@summithighschool.org · +1-727-339-7339.
