Course Overview
Public Speaking and Debate is a dynamic elective that empowers students to express themselves clearly, persuasively, and confidently. Students develop their speaking, listening, argumentation, and critical thinking skills through structured practice in various speech formats and competitive debate styles. The course enhances leadership, civic engagement, and college-readiness by building confidence in public communication.
Topics include speech structure, delivery techniques, research methods, rhetorical strategies, logic and fallacies, and formal debate rules. Students participate in individual and group presentations, debates, and peer evaluations, aligning with Florida Communication and English Language Arts standards.
